The bosses weren’t too impressed either. First, many of them are “advanced” versions of ordinary opponents. Secondly, their complexity (except for the very last one) leaves much to be desired, no matter how subjective the assessment may seem. Some game situations escaped the attention of the developers or the writer, letting The Surge in a lot of spoiling the atmosphere of stupidity. The isolated part of the game world is fenced off by a tall Great Wall, but at the same time it can be simply bypassed by water – which the local reasonable techno-magical force does not even think about, preferring to shove right through the barricades and human defenses. In a city club that’s the size of a provincial hairdresser’s, the body-positive DJ continues to squirm in the dance even after the head bastard rushes through the room, knocking out the music and shredding half the hall.įorgot about the testers. Let the game forum not be full of negativity, The Surge 2 does not get any better from this. For example, the owners of consoles have something else fun: crashes and non-loading textures. And in order for the brightness slider to work in the game, you have to turn off HDR at the hardware level.īut what Deck13 keeps a close eye on is the good old souls traditions that even From Software abandoned. No fast travel between local “fires” until the end of the game – only memorization of routes, only jogging, only hardcore. And those who have memorized all the short paths are delighted with a new cataclysm in the last third of the story, which destroys most of the familiar paths and seriously changes the landscape of locations. It’s only a pity that it’s tiring to explore all this disgrace over time, and it’s not about intricate levels, but about a low reward for parkour and ingenuity – in ninety-nine cases out of a hundred it will be an armful of spare parts for pumping. Even in Bloodborne, teeming with gore for weapon upgrades, descending into a well was periodically rewarded with a beautiful blade. This was not seen here.

The main thing that the guys from Deck13 took into account is that the scene should still be diverse. The Surge 2 may not be replete with dozens of locations, but the situation here changes regularly (unlike the first part). There was even a place for a park immersed in greenery, which enlivens the stub of a futuristic metropolis accessible for research with its asphalt streets, concrete boxes of buildings, subway and port area. On the other side of the scales of this world – well, a very vague plot, written in the best traditions of third-rate sci-fi series, which seems to be necessary to follow, but completely uninteresting. The secondary characters also let us down with their quests: they have neither catchy characters nor any convincingly presented drama, and therefore they don’t want to empathize. But some of them have many times more phrases, Abrams to a bunch of decently enraging technical errors. Best of all in this case, Deck13 polished the souls mechanics themselves. It perfectly combines sufficient hardcore and the dynamics of fights. Perhaps it is the gameplay, or rather, spectacular fights with enemies, that is the core that will firmly hold the player until the end of the journey. The rest turned out worse, although in favor of the developers it must be said that they have done work on the bugs from the first part of the game and Lords of the Fallen.
THE SURGE 2 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS SERIES
The already established series of games, as before, encroaches on the same laurels as the creations of From Software. At the same time, the Germans are trying to bring something new, even if not always their own – from horizontal glare from the films of J.J. Is it easy to make a good Dark Souls clone? It took the Germans from Deck13 Interactive GmbH three tries. The latter is not the first worthy, but perhaps the most successful of all. First there was the fantasy Lords of the Fallen about brutal men and demons, then the first part of The Surge about a seasoned scrap metal collector in a harsh industrial future. Now here’s the sequel.
